Written by Lennon on . Posted in Podcasts

Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 123, of Guard Frequency — the best damn space sim podcast ever! This episode was recorded on Friday 4th June 2016 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday, June 7th 2016 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Having been caught attempting to break out of the hangar, Tony, Geoff and Lennon have been rounded back up and placed in solitary confinement awaiting the ban hammer. In the mean time, in this week’s Squawk Box we take a look at a rather bad week in US aviation with news of the F-16, the KC-46 and the F-35. On the Flight Deck we see what news has landed from your favourite space-sims as we cover:

Next, we debate crime and punishment, and finally we tune into the Feedback Loop and let you join in on the conversation.

News We Didn’t Use

This Week’s Community Questions

  • Can everyone implement first-offense, maximum punishment anti-cheating systems and they’re just too nervous, or are there other factors that prevent smaller games and companies from taking the same measures?

    Wonderful show everyone.

I personally think some games just dont have that many actual cheaters, due to lack of useful loot for incentive. As for others, the ban hammer can backfire if too many innocents get hit and have to fight to get their stuff back.

    Tony you ignorant…

Cheating / Anti-Cheating is an arms race and some developers don’t have the resources or will to continually fight this battle.

Many have good cause to be nervous about implementing the gaming equivalent of the death penalty. What happens when you get it wrong? How much would you be in favor of a one and done approach if you were wrongly given a lifetime ban on your favorite game?

Software have bugs, detection programs can generate false positives. Is “Kill them all and let God sort them out” really the answer?

That’s how I’d make the argument anyhow. I do think bad behavior / cheating in games is a huge problem and in the grand scheme of things, it’s probably worth sacrificing the few poor folks that wrongly get caught up in the net in order to stem the practice.
