I’m happy to report that I’m solidly a skeptic on the wheel, not a believer. I think the way Star Citizen is progressing (or more often, failing to) tells a strange and sad story, but not a new one: it’s a project that’s choking on scope creep, poor direction, enormous technical challenges, and a focus on marketing-ready visuals over actual game design.
They’ve got a long, hard road ahead of them, and I don’t think getting all the things they’ve promised is even a remote possibility. It’s possible that they might eventually find a way to hammer Star Citizen (or the perpetually-MIA Squadron 42) into something less ambitious but genuinely fun, but that very much remains to be seen.
