Written by Lennon on . Posted in Podcasts

Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 076, of Guard Frequency, the universe’s premier Star Citizen podcast recorded on 12th June 2015 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday, June 16th 2015 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Geoff, Tony and Jayce are your hosts this evening as Lennon has managed to get himself handcuffed to a badger. In this week’s Squawk Box, we talk about how a piece of parchment 800 years ago has influenced space law today. In CIG News we bring you everything that’s happening around the UEE including our weekly Crowd Funding Update, capital ship combat and building your perfect starship stations from 10 for the Designers episode 04, what we could glean about the social module and AC3.0 from Reverse the Verse episode 50 and everything that we know so far about the human-converted Vanduul Scythe and the new Vanduul Bomber that’s been spotted in deep space. In Nuggets for Nuggets we get all sorts of silly, and finally we tune in to the Feedback Loop and let you join in on the conversation.

When it comes to capital ship battles, my feelings lean towards the anime style, big weapons lighting up the sky, and fighters hoping to to get hit with missiles so large the fighters smeared on them dont even detonate the missiles.

Great show everyone. Personally i just am not impressed with the Vanduul ships, they just dont have good aesthetics.

The Battleship vs Submarine idea is a false dichotomy. Just as the wet Navies have different engagement tactics for different ships and targets, so should the Star Citizen capital+ sized ships. The type of engagement that happens will be dependant upon the ship, her loadout, and what she’s trying to take down.
For example, a Javelin-Class destroyer bristling with turrets may bring her incredible girth into spitting range and generally be the loudest, most armored, meanest, and generally un-ignorable piece of hardware in the zone. Whereas an Idris-class frigate may run as silent as possible, scouting and harassing with the fighter compliment until something is in range of her massive Railgun and she can secure the kill.

As for me, I take the third option of the “Carrier Group” style. I aim to send out just the right type of Small craft to bring down prey of all sizes, and have close-support in the form of either area-denial turrets or support craft.

    Good show.

I tend to prefer the surface-ship style combat in space. The submarine paradigm is great for increasing tension and storytelling but it feels like it’s often an all-or-nothing scenario: the first ship to find the other one just flat out wins. In game terms I feel like that would translate to the pilot and ecw person being the ones doing 90% of the work, and then the weapons person just wakes up to hit a torpedo launch button if/when their ecw operator finds the target (think about Wrath of Khan: Sulu was doing almost everything while the rest of the crew just sat around). The surface ship battles involve exchanging salvos and progressively damaging the target, allowing for a lot more crew to get invovled in repairs, damage, operating multiple weapons, etc.

G-safe works fine… It turns itself off when you boost.
