I’m witholding “great show” only because you didn’t pick the show title I was hoping for.

I don’t entirely buy the argument that the modular system is a way for CIG to get more money. I would argue it’s actually cheaper, at the moment, for people who haven’t decided what they want to do, or who want to multitask. As Tony pointed out (oh God I’m making him right, aren’t I?) someone who’s not sold on their role can buy a blank hull and just wait on the modules. Or, someone who wants to do bombing and moonlight as a cargo hauler can buy bomb-bay modules and cargo modules, rather than buying what would likely have been two distinct variants of the ‘Tali.

I’ll reiterate the point I made in my previous comments, though; I’m not sure if they’re actually screwing themselves over in terms of incentive to get people to buy ships in the long run. For example, if the cargo modules for the Retaliator end up giving more cargo space in a sturdier hull than the comparable dedicated hauler, who’ll bother with the single-use ship? I expect the ship stats page is going to be a source of much debate and “[Concern]” threads going forward.

Best use of AC/DC’s song ever!

I love the modular idea, i think thats what they should have done from the start.

    Excellent show everyone.

It has been my understanding (at least since the unveiling of the Javelin-class destroyer) that this “LEGO-rooms system” had always been the way CIG was going to be handling ships with rooms in them. Prior to that, I was under the assumption that ship variants were essentially “bundle deals”, where one would get a certain hull with different loadouts pre-installed. I.E. the 325a is a 300i Hull with the fighter package installed by the dealership/manufacturer. Same analogy for the Constellations Taurus and Aquila. I’m not certain where, but I’m fairly sure that in one of the RtVs, it was mentioned you can install the Aquila’s semi-circular front window onto a Taurus if you were so inclined.

This is also why “Cutlass-gate” didn’t really phase me, because I was always under the impression you could swap around most any functional part of the ship, such as changing the powerplant for one that has a lower capacity but a faster recharge. Or the stock shield generator for one that is hardened for ramming. Or a ball turret for an automated target painter to dramatically increase an enemy’s signature for missile lock-on.

This new store development with the Retaliator is the signal that that LEGO-room idea has moved beyond concept and into design. And don’t forget; anything and everything seen in the Pledge/VD stores can be acquired via in-game means in the PTU.

P.S. Concerning “Trackballs” the Song… Don’t quit your day jobs.

Good show, not great. The song at the beginning was cringe worthy, but I applaud the effort and innuendo.

Speaking of that, the trackballs on the HOTAS feels like a gimmick to me. The ball on the joystick looks like it’s in a terrible position and won’t be all that useful unless it can be bound to other functions than attempting to mimic the mouse interactive mode. A ball on the throttle, in the right spot could be more useful, though I remain a skeptic that the trackballs are little more than a gimmick that won’t bring controller parity any closer and may make things worse if CIG expects that the only “competitive” HOTAS for the game will have balls awkwardly places around.

As for the rest of the proposed high end branded HOTAS, I love the X-65 style throttle with buttons behind the throttle handle. The stick looks like the same mechanism in the X-55, which is a cause for a second thought since Saitek is not known for quality in HOTAS, especially the X-55. The OLED screen (possibly touch?) is a neat idea, though would be better under the throttle, not the stick as I feel that needing to release the throttle to interact with a touch interface would be less of a detriment to flight than having to release the stick.

Personally I don’t see the modular systems as a cash grab. If they made the Base + 2 bomb bays cost more than the base tali then it could be seen as one, but as is I really like what they’ve done. I’m looking forward to what modules come out for the Cutlass for me to pickup.

Modularity good. Variants good. Modularity should not be overdone though. I disagree completely that you should be able to do anything with any ship. Cash grab? Of course. That’s what new ships/variants/modules are all about right now. I’m not spending another dime but hopefully others will. 100M isn’t going to make itself!

Nice Ode to Trackballs Tony! Thanks for the patch!

Absolutely love the show every week guys! Your great…. Well Tony not so much but Jeff makes up for it in the blooper real. heh

Look the modularity issue is a realistic avenue for people to make their own special use vehicle that best suits them. I wonder if too many people want all ships to BE all ships. In the QnA CIG makes it clear that will not be possible. Note the bickering regarding cargo capacity.

Look I go to my pickup to haul my stuff and do work in. I go to my car to enjoy a nice drive while not worrying about the mpg burning a hole through my backside. Yet neither can perform the others rolls in the same capacity as what they were designed for. Add to this more apt example (than Tonies plane reference or Jeffs xbox) is a pickup is designed with a bed that can be interchanged with other modifications. For use in a wide variety of applications. You want to make your Honda Civic capable of hauling a cord of wood? Then have at it. But the modification to do so should take a LONG time and COST more than the car is worth and even then it shouldn’t last. This isn’t Star McGuyver. The ships available to you in game should be as varied and characteristic as the 57′ chevy to the 15′ Ram 3500 to a Lamborghini diablo to the International Lonestar. If you have the Freelancer and want to mod it akin to what the Hull A is…… THEN BUY THE HULL A! This is where CIG gets its funding. By offering a variety of ships. In my opinion there should be hundreds of different and varieties of ships just like our car companies offer today. The attraction in the retaliator is in its ability to be the pickup of star citizen. Its why I feel Jeffs hotub in his conny is safe. Just dont ask me for a joy ride in it. But Ill haul your couch if u need.
