Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous released Update 14.02 on the date AFTER the earlier announced date, without ever announcing that updated date before they released it. It all happened so fast, and the update itself was pretty smooth. There were a number of fixes and upgrades, including improvements to the Trouble Bubble Map and a solution to the progress advancement bug in combat zones. They also released the size 5 AX weapons stabilizer and sorta fixed the interceptors wandering off from surface bases. Finally, they started a community goal that has more to do with Powerplay factions than Thargoid fighting, which has us guessing about Update 15 again. And that is about it, really. Nothing else comes to mind. All good news and nothing controversial. Oh, except they nerfed all the payouts for Thargoid kills without telling anyone. Over to you, Brian.

Star Citizen

Star CItizen released the 29th and 30th updates to Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.18… AND, pushed that update to Wave 2 testers! That’s right, 3.18 is going to go to Live any day now, just as soon as they get the trains and elevators working again. Also, good news everyone, last month, the team got together at Star Citizen World Headquarters in Montreal and figured out what they needed to do to get Server Meshing delivered. Mostly. They had another follow up meeting that QUOTE further defined the tasks END QUOTE, so it sure sounds like they have it all under control now. And everyone should be looking forward to next week as CIG has just announced that on February 8, 2023, there will be an update to the road [pause for Tony to growl] instructional illustration for 3.19. A roadmap for the roadmap, if you will.

Osiris: New Dawn

Osiris: New Dawn is a space survival, open world, base building game that went from early access in mid 2016 to version 1.0 release on January 18 this year. And on January 30, it went to QUOTE Long Term Support END QUOTE. TLDR: a space game went from early access to release in 6 and a half years, and from release to maintenance mode in less than two weeks. What does this mean? How is this relevant to us? I don’t know, but I’m sure we’ll find a way to make at least 10 minutes of good radio out of it.

Community Questions

  • Is there a certain amount of time that should be considered “good etiquette” between release and maintenance mode? Does it depend on the game?
  • Is the breakdown of “lawful, lawless, and unlawful” mission prototypes proposed for Star Citizen a good start to helping the griefer problem?
