Guard Frequency Episode 126 | Chivnary in a Panite Mine

Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 125, of Guard Frequency — the best damn space sim podcast ever! This episode was recorded on Friday 24th June 2016 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday, June 27th 2016 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Unfortunately Lennon’s had to sit this one out as he prepares his campaign to run as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain, so instead Jayce joins Tony and Geoff to bring you a show that was recently voted 52:48 the Best Damn Space Sim Podcast Ever. To start things off, in this week’s Squawk Box, we check out some tourist spots at the edge of the solar system. On the Flight Deck we see what news has landed from your favourite space-sims as we cover:

Next, we debate single-role vs. multi-role ships, and finally we tune into the Feedback Loop and let you join in on the conversation.

A quick reminder that as next weekend is the 4th July weekend, we’re all going to be partying like it’s 1776 and so there won’t be a show. Instead, Guard Frequency will return for its Friday night recording slot on the 8th July, and the show will be released on July 12th. Oh, and nobody tell the Brit.

This Week’s Community Questions

  • Do multiple, single-purpose ships ensure you’re doing jobs with the best tools possible, or is the convenience of a multi-purpose hull a better option?

The multipurpose ship is more lore friendly, most pilots would not have a hanger with a bunch of ships, but single purpose ships are better at what they are intended to do.

    Loved the show everyone.

It’s possible the size for the galaxy maps is supported and the item amounts is the problem. Infact that is my personal belief that the engine is having problems with supporting the amount of objects not the size of the maps.

Thanks for the holiday weekend warning. I guess I look to some previous episodes to listen to next week.

IIRC, Squadron 42 allows for PU friends to join you in mission (drop-in/drop-out co-op) which is similar to joining friends in the SC PU. That’s why PU development extends to S42.

As for this weeks question, when we find out how easy it is to switch ships, crews, components, from one hanger location to wherever we happen to be in the PU, will determine if it is better to take it all with you in a multi-purpose ship when you launch into the deep black.

Just to point out, after Geoff made that poor taste joke we got to see the Dragonfly in whitebox flying about, keep at it Geoff, CIG just give us the whitebox models to test fly already!

As long as I can take a base ship and turn it into a top of the range ship, I don’t care, it can cost more or glow on the radar I don’t mind but the issue with multi purpose ships is that usually there is one ship that never makes sense to buy as its worse than the rest (I’m looking at you cutlass)

Also after listening to you talk about Elite so much I built the bullet and brought it for the second time, registrations and log in issues almost made me as for a refund the second time but I got it to work, I picked up a mission, started making jumps and misjudged one and ran out of fuel, could of done with guard freq but it was the 4th of July so.. nevermind.

Dotted lines means you’ll run out of fuel!

Your issues with the full system may be unfounded. What it sounds like to me is, the full system hasn’t been done yet. Making a 30 AU size (the radius from neptune through sol) maps have been done, but putting planets, asteroids and stations in them. Then, like any other game level, make sure it’s fun.

Saying a feature, like 64 bit maps, can be considered done if they can make a ship fly the distance from edge to edge, but that doesn’t mean it’s bug free, or fun. I “believe” the size of the map is not longer a technical issue but a gameplay issue.
