Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 059, of Guard Frequency, the universe’s premier Star Citizen podcast recorded on 14th February 2015 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday 17th February 2015 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Lennon has missed enough shows now to unlock the Most Absent Host Achievement, so to present it to him is Justin “Chivalrybean” Lowmaster, Tony and Geoff. Unfortunately Lennon wasn’t around to accept his reward. Shame! Moving on to the show, in this week’s Squawk Box we see just how crowded the skies are getting. In CIG News we bring you everything that’s happening around the UEE featuring our weekly Crowd Funding Update, the latest Design Doc on Rental Equipment Credit, the latest patchnotes for the PTU (Arena Commander 1.0.3), and we let you know that you all missed a chance to shoot the devs. In Nuggets for Nuggets we learn all about Nul, and finally we tune into the Feedback Loop and let you join in on the conversation.

Tony what is up with you lately…. All of a suuden you are always right.

You guys rant like a baws, all the time every time. (not always a good thing ~.^ )

Excluding vandull swarm from the ability to earn credits will cause it to fall into obscurity by those that want the credits and will leave those of us that play vandull swarm missing out on credits and all the gear that entails. Now one thing they could do is make it so you don’t start earning credits till x number of waves in and at a slower rate than PvP matches.

    With regards for REC:

I understand where you guys are coming from, but I disagree almost completely. I tend see Arena Commander in the same light as CIG, maybe because of my background in software development, it’s not really a game. It’s simply a game-ified (or however it’s spelled) test bed, or even as little as a tech demo or concept proofing application that we also get to download.. There’s nothing to win, there should be no end-game (or leaderboards). I, personally, feel that if people can unlock everything there would be stagnation. Sure they are adding new things every month, but if it’s not the current flavor of the month people won’t care about them. Through personal experience and experiences of some of my gamer friends, things get boring when there are no goals to work for.

Even the methods of earning the REC sounds fine to me. I would love some in private Vanduul Swarm, since that’s pretty much all I play currently. Having to play ranked PvP matches for REC would motivate me to get out there and do just that. Since it’s easy to balance human against AI, but less easy to balance, if even possible, players against other players.

The only thing, besides earning some REC in coop swarm, I would change with the proposed REC system is to lengthen the rental period, but I would not change the system from a rental.

    Community Question:

Yes, of course, but at a reduced rate, no more than 50-60% of the amount of REC earned in the ranked PvP modes. Simply due to the risk vs. reward aspect. The Vanduul always do the same things. Scavengers are fodder, hunters are slightly more difficult fodder, the aces and alphas launch missiles and can actually land hits. Even a small amount of REC per vanduul kill, increasing amount based on the rank of the target.

With all that disagreement with you guys stated, another great show, will tune in next week.

Hey, really enjoyed the show, great work guys.

I did want to bring up a point you guys didn’t discuss when it comes to targeted testing on the rental system. You stated if they wanted everyone to test a 300 series, they should just give them to everyone like they currently do. I expect this doesn’t give them the results they are expecting. Hand everyone 8x Omniskis and I’m not testing the 300 series, I’m testing how my Cutlass does with 5 Omniski 6s. Those that do fly the 300 series are in an environment that is very abnormal, and may not give them the data points they want.

Meanwhile if you just make a rental cheaper then people may pick it up to actually fly it, thereby increasing the overall 300 series ships in the normal environment.

I’m not a huge fan of the rental system as it stands, but I do at least understand why they did it this way and have to begrudgingly accept that they are doing what they feel with give them the best data.

As for the community question…what the darn hell…why doesn’t ridding the universe of some fake vanduul get me anything!?!

I like the idea of the equipment rentals because it allows for a “try before you buy” situation with the weapons – I’ve been hesitant to buy any of the weapons specifically because I don’t know if they’d be worth it.

I’m not a fan of the fact that you can’t get REC via Vanduul swarm. This is going to sound forum-level rage-y, but I don’t think that decision is doing anything to encourage the people who are banking on Chris’ repeated statements that the game will be viable to play solo.

Then again, many real-life e-sports games with internal currency give reduced or no prizes for playing against AI, so maybe this is just an immersion thing.
