Written by Lennon on . Posted in Podcasts

Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 075, of Guard Frequency, the universe’s premier Star Citizen podcast recorded on 5th June 2015 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday, June 9th 2015 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Tony, Lennon and Geoff are back in the hangar, fashionably late (as the best things are) to bring you some delayed Star Citizen goodness. In this week’s Squawk Box we talk all about the thing that gets you down. In CIG News we bring you everything that’s happening around the UEE including our weekly Crowd Funding Update, our first impressions of the May Monthly Report, and a quick reality check on Star Marine. In Nuggets for Nuggets we see what MISSILE-aneous goods we can purchase from Max Stax and the Stax Brothers, and finally we tune into the Feedback Loop and let you join in on the conversation.

    If I may be so bold, I will paraphrase what Da Vinci may have said as he was working on the Last Supper;
    “You want it done now? Ok, I will use the egg yolk lacquer.”
    Now the masterpiece is almost gone.

    Good show; the bloopers section should probably be prefaced “Tony’s ad-lib attempts” going forward.

    First off, we know CR is not going to significantly back down on his end vision for SC, so releasing less feature complete modules seems like it would just be a stopgap solution that will delay the complete release even farther. If something they wanted to do is flat-out impossible, fine, but nothing’s indicated that’s the case yet. Most major MMOs took 5 years of development, even genre pioneers like EvE and WoW. Star Citizen is in year 3 (ish; campaign ended late 2012), and they’re trying to do a lot more than either of the above games; I’m nowhere near worried yet.

    Regarding the lack of communication, I think what Lenin cited as a possible solution to the former is a cause for the latter: the new senior management hailing from larger game publishers. News from CIG has indicated CR is heads-down directing S42 mo-cap; he’s probably largely withdrawn from the day-to-day at this point. That means the big producer managers are in charge, and the big producers are notorious for not telling anyone the ship is sinking until people are treading water in their cabins. Even with CIG’s open development culture, old habits die hard. I suspect that’s the reason we don’t have more transparency about the delay.
