Guard Frequency Episode 091 | All Hail Us, Maybe

Greetings Citizens and Civilians, you’re tuned to episode 091, of Guard Frequency, the universe’s premier Star Citizen podcast recorded on 2nd October 2015 and released for streaming and download on Tuesday, October 6th 2015 at GuardFrequency.com [Download this episode]

Lennon, Tony and Geoff phone it in this week (nothing new there, amiright?!), so in a departure from our usual format we’re skipping Squawk Box and Nuggets for Nuggets to open up the phone lines and see what you have to say, and we talk about everything from the Endavour Sale to the latest rounds of drama and everything in between. For those of you who couldn’t call in, fear not, we also frequently tune into the Feedback Loop throughout the show and read out your feedback — and if you’re written in and you don’t hear us read your feedback out don’t worry, we received so much feedback from last week’s show that we’re saving some of it for next week!

Topics Discussed

  • It’s a mystery! Tune in to find out

While I understand that the idea to create a corporation with a Board of Directors is only one of many, I for one do think it’s a tenable idea. The problem with Boards is they sometimes begin to buy into their own bullshit and think they know the direction the company should go in better than the company’s creator and artistic director. It’s not inconceivable that they could relegate CR to a largely ceremonial role which would be the death knell of CIG as we know it.

This isn’t a situation where gross malfeasance or incompetence has been demonstrated so I for one see no reason to try to have CR give up any day to day control in that manner. Furthermore, I really would not trust 97% of the people in the CIG community to make an educated decision as to who should be on the Board of Directors, CEO, President, etc.

Lastly, I think we all forget about Tony Zurovec and Otrwin Freyermuth. These guys are no paper-tigers. Both are powerhouses in their own right and with Ortwin, he’s actually a founding partner of the company. I don’t see them allowing CR’s vision or lack of management skills or ego or whatever you’d like to call it destroy the company and EVERYTHING they’re trying to build.

While I agree partially with a previous callers assertion that profit isn’t the ONLY motivation, it is certainly “A” motivation. This isn’t a philanthropic endeavor. CIG wants to turn a profit. However running a profitable business and maintaining artistic integrity are not necessarily mutually exclusive of one another.

Great show. Keep up the good work.

Excellent shows guys! Hearing the pre-production of the show is great.

    I have listened to all guard shows having caught up to the present. Here is what I have learned;

*The show is SO much funnier when Tony is wrong.
*Only real men know how to best wake themselves up in the morning; Upgrade that cup of jo with de-scaler.
*Geof’s hot tub is still on back order.
*Wild horses cant keep Lennon away.
*Moisture sensing klaxon’s are for infectious laughter bladder management.
*Something something something, mini jump point’s, blah blah blah.
*Lennon is really a Texan in British disguise.
*Space Pirate CPA’s are truly scary.
“All shows with Tony in them have been hilarious.
*’THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!’… way to pronounce all names; Geof’s way.
*Tony plays with prarry chickens. Lennon is the clock Nazi, and Goef is immortal.

Finally; We all love the game we are building.
Thank you all for such a great show and I cant wait for next week.

    Good show everyone!

Not necessary to read my last comment in ep. 90. Only if something is useable of my “general talk”!

I really like David DeCosta (TheronShan) 3rd paragraph (Lastly, …).

    In addition to last occurrences:
The Escapist crossed for my interpretation a red line. An anonymous source can go to the police and give them tips, which lead to facts. But an anonymous source should never get an amplified voice in the internet with career harming allegations; of this kind; without hard proof. By all truth there may be, the intention is more to hit below the belt. Without concrete evidence should the Escapist be made responsible for it’s actions! Just saying we did some mistakes won’t cut it. I have more problems with this article but this is by far the worst one.

    Great show!
The call-ins are nice addition to the usual format, though I miss some of the other segments. I have no doubt that you’ll catch up on later shows though…

When it comes to the game, I was a bit concerned when I read one of the answers in the latest Q&A for the Endeavor. Do we need to return to a dock/hangar to safely log out? On of the answers hinted that leaving the ship in orbit of an unexplored planet may be dangerous. This is a bad gameplay mechanic in my opinion. You may have to go offline for any number of reasons, and loosing a ship as a result would be very bad. I think a ship needs to despawn no matter where you are if you log out or loose the connection to the server. You may want to stop exploits by disabling despawn on logout during combat though.

More questions still remains unanswered when it comes to ships and carrier spawn mechanics. Will small ships be inaccessible if they are docked to a carrier and the owner decides to park the carrier and go offline, or will it be possible to retrieve them somehow? Will hangar space be freed up on a carrier when someone parked there goes offline?
