We have full (not partial) permission this week for Kinshadow, Ostron and Geoff to bring you another exciting installment of the Best Damn Space Sim Podcast Ever! Starting us out, in this week’s Squawk Box we have LAZORS! Next, we check out what news from your favourite space sims has hit the Flight Deck as we cover:

After that we’re debating game updates done via item acquisition before finally tuning into the Feedback Loop and letting you join in on the conversation.

This Week’s Community Question

  • Is a system where players purchase in-game updates and enhancements a good way to increase immersion and realism? Or will it mean that the game is only optimal for the hardcore gamers, and others who aren’t able to acquire items get left behind? Perhaps there’s an angle on this that we missed?

Let us know your thoughts by commenting below!

We got patches!

Join us in-game!

What is up with the “colons”? That silliness needs to stop, like yesterday. Everytime I hear one it puts me one step closer to not listening. And I know I’m asking for it here but Is there a patreon level that’ll make you stop? 🙂

    Great show, as always.
I really like the difference between the live recording and the the show you make out of it. It usually leads to me listening to the show twice:-).

Wasn’t there originally a patch lottery for Patreons in the past? Whatever happened to it? Any other way to earn a patch?

I will get live show posted today, sorry it’s late!

As for patch lottery, I will be sending them out right quick. Basically it’s a sure “win” for new patrons, unless we get a large amount at once.

Expect to see it sooish ®.

Been listening for quite a while now, and I’ve been wanting to respond to the last several week’s community questions, but my recently expanded family put me a week behind on all my podcasts. Finally caught up in time to respond to this one.

When I first heard the idea of purchasing updates in-game, during the lead-up to the debate, I didn’t like it. However, after listening to your post-debate discussion, I found that I really like the concept for non-game-breaking equipment updates, like tweaking the laser weapons or changing the hardpoints on a ship. This especially works with the fact that old equipment would eventually “phase out”, as you put it, when they’re invariably destroyed in a combat-oriented game and replaced with the latest models. I would even suggest that there be a trade-up program that players could take advantage of so they could easily get the latest equipment without committing the inevitable “insurance fraud” of sending their old ship into a red zone.

Love listening to you every week, and it’s been a long time since I laughed as hard as when you put Ronald Jenkees’ show in your music.

It’s a neat idea, but I think people would have birds if it was done. On the other hand, for Star Cit once ship sales are winding down it may make a nice transition to move to components.
Don’t worry about this colon trouble, everyone’s got one whether they admit it or not 🙂

Not-colon-smile, if I read that right.
