I think there is a lot of unknowns with the turrets. It’s going to take a lot of iteration. CIG is going to have to try and fail in order to get the data they need to make informed development choices. I think they are on the right track though it’s hard to say. Making sure to flesh out the features is the main thing they can do to make sure the player feels useful in the turret position. Improving the targeting system and adding alt fire is a good start. Adding a C&C position to a ship, in the future, will allow the ship to focus fire prioritized targets and improve would things even more.

The game developers mantra; “Fail faster!”

    Good show guys!

      Oh yeah
I picked up an X1 Force. The extra shields make it more survivable. The amount of guns it has is meaningless if you’re up against a fighter. The best thing you can do is take a few hits and GTFO!

SC: The turret enter/exit changes are welcome. It would be disorientating to lock-into a turret in an unexpected orientation. Regarding the targeting and movement, I feel turrets should be more aligned to the gunner than the pilot in that a turret gunner should be able to maintain tracking on an enemy independent of the pilot’s flight (within its firing arc). If a turret gunner has to compensate for the target’s movements and the pilot’s maneuvers, things will get messy and diminish returns.

ED: The AX Missile nerf is fine. We don’t know how the Thargoid assets are coded, so adjusting the damage of the missiles is likely a “safer” change than adjusting the Thargoids themselves. I do think the GalNet piece should have been released prior to patch notes; but I also think players need to not go berserk so quickly.

ED Expo: There were great announcements that are going to improve Elite in 2018, I imagine these will be discussed next week but the biggest ones for me were: Squadrons, expanded narratives, Exploration, and the new lighting model and planetary tech. That “visual target” ice planet concept is beautiful and if we get even close to that in Q4 2018 I’ll be ecstatic. I think the community at large are most pleased with the new ships (who doesn’t love new ships), and the QOL updates to Engineers.

    Loved the episode everyone.

I hope their work with the turrets pay off, time will tell. I am seriously considering getting one of the x1 variants.
