Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous is advancing the narrative in just the direction we predicted last week, with a Community Goal directing players to sell Titan Drive Components to unlock new technology. Achilles Aerospace is looking to challenge the monopoly that the Sirius Corporation has on FTL technology and these widgets are just what the doctor ordered. And as expected the Leigong Titan blowed up real good over last weekend, which means the community is moving on to the next target: the Oya Titan. Except they aren’t moving their carriers very quickly.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.23.0 9117019-9118978 to the EPTU server this week. This is the first rough test of 3.23 which includes the new character creator and integrated server crash recovery. In addition to testing the next build, CIG is running stress tests on what appears to be a variety of static server meshing schemes on the PTU. And, well, early reports indicate that they certainly are getting a lot of stress tested and a lot of crash data, so… mission accomplished. Finally, the rest of the gaming press picked up a little bit of CIG’s financial report and rose up, as one, and cried with a singular voice: meh.

Third Wheel

Helldivers 2 hit a little speed bump while attempting to patch some persistent friends-list issues, resulting in a few crashes and slowing the spread of Liberty and Freedom. Also, it turns out that flying bugs and blue lasers aren’t the only things the devs aren’t being totally honest about. The TOOL TIPS are lying to us! And if we can’t trust the Tool Tips to tell us how to play the game, who can we trust? And don’t say Super Earth because it turns out they may be lying to us about the very nature of helldiving. And in other news, Starship Simulator launched its Kickstarter and has already met its first funding goal. And much like some other crowdfunded project we know; they have an ambitious set of stretch goals.

Community Questions

  • Is Kickstarting a game with the explicit goal of only getting to Early Access a more honest approach or selling the backers short?
  • Is CIG going to take shortcuts to get to Star Citizen MVP and Squadron 42 release?
