Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous unveiled the mysterious mystery that lies at the heart of the permit-locked system of HIP 87621. And it’s a tree. Or a really tall shrubbery. It also has eggs on sticks, which I’m sure won’t cause any trouble down the line. The rewards for scanning the new bush are multiplied by eight if you sign up for the Community Goal and turn in the scans at Exogene Systems starport. Almost 11,000 CMDRs have signed up for the chance at a Grade 5 science spacesuit that has been completely kitted out. The CG will run for two weeks, and presumably, we’ll find out why all three superpowers and all twelve Powerplay factions cared enough about this plant to move dozens of ships to the area.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.4 PTU 10703813 to the PTU server. The IAE starts next Thursday and I’m sure the patch will be ready and totally stable by then. And everyone will want that patch to be stable as they queue up to buy their very own F8C Lighting! That’s right folks, step right up, no weird PvP gold certificate, no concierge restrictions! Just put your cash on the barrel and you too can have your very own, restricted, exclusive, unique unicorn of a space fighter! But don’t worry if you can’t afford an in-game version of the best fighter in the game. They’ll sell you a plastic model kit of the F8C too! And CIG keeps trying to put out a Tech Preview under NDA, but everyone keeps talking about the new Engineering gameplay and crashing the Tech Preview server – which for some reason degrades the Live and PTU servers as well. But we won’t dwell too much on the bad decisions on the back end of Star Citizen. At least not while there are some bad decisions to talk about on the Engineering front end.
Dune Awakening
Dune Awakening is delaying their castle back-up tool to fine tune its inner workings, but they’re going ahead with the rest of their latest quality of life patch. And in a bit of news we didn’t cover around Halloween, In The Black (formerly known as Starfighter, Inc.) released a demo and they say they’re close to an Early Access product.
Community Questions
- Would In The Black hurt their chances with their hard-core sim fans by including concessions (like reduced travel time) for more casual players?
- How should CIG resolve the “Make Boom/Fix Ship” dilemma? Would soft-death by default fix it or is there a better way?
