Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous released the Caspian Explorer. It’s great. Tony and Henry will talk about it at length. That’s all there is to say about the game until February. I’m gonna take a nap now.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.5 10869259 PTU to the PTU server. That’s because everything wrong with 4.4 was completely fixed and running perfectly now, so we can just move right ahead with introducing Engineering and Fire systems that everyone thinks are definitely ready for release. CIG has such confidence in these features, that they posted the design doc to the forums. And to prove their confidence, they started editing the forum post while it was still live. Open Development doesn’t get much better than this! At least they’re not going to try to keep patching this thing all the way through the Christmas holiday. I channel Padme as I say again: They’re not going to try to keep patching this, right?
Dune Awakening
Dune Awakening is testing the first iteration of the server migration process and is promising yet another backup mode for your lost and wayward vehicles.
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 released their newest warbond: Python Commandos, but that’s not even the big news. The big news is that the game is about to get 80% smaller. That’s right, the new beta version is only 23 Gigs, compared to the almost 150 Gigs it takes up on your disk now. And that’s not all. Sony has announced that the Helldivers movie has found its director: Justin Lin from the Fast and Furious series and Star Trek: Beyond.
Community Questions
- How important is it to have a Plan for a major game change that you communicate to your playerbase before you make the major game change? Is it OK to just start testing pieces of the change without telling anyone the big picture?
- Tell us about your Caspian Explorer purchase? Galactic, Stellar, or Standard? Extra paint jobs? Did you keep the hologram paint job?
