Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous is returning to form after listening carefully to our gentle criticism regarding Community Goals. This week, instead of the universally reviled “top 75%” reward restriction, anyone who carries a single ton of cargo to a wrecked starport can get a pair of Mark 2 Cargo Racks. Good job Frontier! Also, Frontier is going to make a lot more guineaquids this year than they expected. So much more that they had to write a press release about it. Good job Frontier! Finally, buried in the fine print of that press release was a tiny factoid that made Tony go down a short little rabbit hole that took him from Elite’s finances to Star Citizen’s finances. Oh. Joy. Good job … Frontier.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.8 LIVE 1825000 to the LIVE server. And what a release it has been so far! First, the good news. This release contained precisely ZERO missing inventory items or ships and ZERO unexplained duplication of items… because they wiped the database at the last minute. That’s the end of the good news. The bad news is that the authentication servers were overwhelmed, missions are broken, and ships are blowing up and disappearing due to “Unknown”. It’s so bad, that the scheduled free fly event has been … well, it’s not happening for now. A hotfix is being put through testing, but there’s no ETA. But there will be a patch on Tuesday, so there’s that.
