Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous creates a classic bad news sandwich, starting with one slice of good news bread by announcing a release date for Update 15. This will be May 9… until they delay it. Then they add the other slice of good news with the tease of a new Thargoid Interceptor-slash-Scout-slash-Fighter that is very fast and shaped like a ninja star. And smushed between these things is an announcement that their Frameshift Live biweekly stream is now going to be a MONTHLY stream. I suppose this is probably the most subtle way to announce a content drought that they could come up with. In the meantime, Commanders apparently took the HINT HINT that Galnet and the community team set out about a month ago. The players really cracked down on the Orthrus Interceptors in the Thargoid Alert systems. So much so that the Thargoid advance has ground to a halt. It also helps that it looks like FDev put a hard cap of 40 alert systems per week into the model. So, humanity has that going for it, which is nice.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.18.2 to the LIVE server this week, and promptly knocked the servers over. Server-side hotfixes were deployed and fingers were crossed. And, as of this broadcast, the server status page for Star Citizen is all “greens” across the board. Aside from the people still complaining on the forums and on the subreddit, everything seems to be working fine. So, six weeks after the release of 3.18, players can now apparently log in to the game! Break out the party hats and pop the champagne corks. Now they can start working on the mission bugs. And the inventory response time. And the loadout problems. And the trains and elevators. All in time for them to announce that they DIDN’T need to fully wipe progress in 3.18.2… and there’s another Xenothreat this weekend. Hit those login servers hard people! And all your grinding will, or will not, count for something, maybe. Let’s see!
