Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous has inched the narrative forward this week, by introducing a new mission type into the Thargoid war: The Fetch-Delivery Quest. Go to a station, get the fetch quest, fetch the goo, drop the goo off at the station, pick up some ooze, then deliver the ooze! And be sure to bring a mop. Also, the Buur Pit may have a solution for the lack of new content in the game: user generated content. But there’s a couple of catches. First, you need a second monitor and a third-party website. Second, you have to deal with the French.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released multiple patches to Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.21.1 to the PTU. Now all backers can test the content for next week’s free fly event: IAE 2953. Featuring all new ships, and old ships with all new prices! Plus, if there’s anything left in that dried-up-turnip that is CitizenCon, this is our last chance to squeeze it, and squeeze it HARD.

Avorion, Homeworld 3, and Starfield (Oh my!)

With all the doom and gloom we’ve been reporting in the games industry as a whole, we thought it might be nice to look around at the pipeline of games that are patching, updating and releasing over the next few months. Homeworld 3 looks on track for a February 2024 release, after being delayed twice. Speaking of big games getting delayed twice, Starfield released a beta version of a patch to Steam, with delivery of the final version to occur later this month. It’s… got some stuff in it. And speaking of games releasing a beta patch before committing to the real deal, Avorion did that very same thing, only they did it back in October. We would have told you sooner, but we’ve been too busy with CitizenCon to notice. And the Boxelware boys are doing something unique with that update that is worth talking about.

  • How do you feel about opting-in to Godzilla tornadoes in games? Is “optional free DLC” a good way to make sure newbies don’t get exposed to endgame content too soon?
  • Is the future of Elite Dangerous “The Game Outside The Game?” Is the secret to keeping the game alive making sure the API stays functional?
