Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous is starting the new year as it finished the old year: relying on the enthusiasm of its community to coast along until news of its future finally surfaces. Fortunately, there’s good news on that. First, there’s a 3rd party overlay tool called SRVSurvey that will help exobiologists and Guardian explorers get around on planet surfaces and maximize their collection efforts. Also, HCS Voicepacks has released a new version of its ASTRA in game copilot that will now help you through the tedious and grindy chores of engineering your modules. And finally, if you have two minutes, you should really head over to the Buur Pit’s YouTube channel and check out their new trailer video. Then we’ll just wait a few more weeks for Frontier to release their midyear financial guidance. And just like that line in Office Space QUOTE “Good luck with your firings. I hope they go really well.”

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released its Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 2022 Accounting Statement. What makes these numbers Pre-Alpha, you ask? CIG tells us right up front! “For consistency it is in the same format as prior years and follows the same simple cost accounting rules, without prescribed formats, disclosures and other treatments required for our financial statements.” In other words, they couldn’t give these numbers to accountants or bankers without getting in trouble. But, they’re good enough for all of us! And they definitely have enough Cumulative Net Position to fund the development of two games and the marketing of Squadron 42 whenever it comes out. We think Cumulative Net Position might be some kind of “money,” but we don’t know that for sure. Also, if you’d like to help CIG earn more Cumulative Net Position, you could buy the new and improved Legatus Pack for only 48 Thousand Actual Dollars

Third Wheel

About half of the Guard Frequency staff spent about half of their Christmas vacation playing “Void Crew.” It’s an Early Access, four-player, mission-based, coop-PVE game that’s a mashup of Deep Rock Galactic and Sea of Thieves. None of the hosts except Tony bothered to check it out. Y’know, because we’re not nerds who have nothing better to do with two weeks off. But hey, we’re pretty sure he’s made his peace with it.

Community Questions

  • Did we sell Void Crew to you? Are you playing it right now? If not, why not?
  • If FDev would give overlays proper support, what would you like on your HUD that isn’t there already?
