Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous released Update 18 on Monday, and our crystal ball worked pretty well. Everything was pretty “meh” and the community was well on its way to blowing up the Thargoid Titan by Tuesday. Our prediction of a “progress bar” mechanic in the Thargoid war menu also came true, and we were probably close on the “70,000 torpedoes” estimate of what it would take to kill a Titan. Best of all, Frontier made a bunch of changes we did not predict, all designed to make it easier for players to jump on the “kill the Titan” bandwagon. Changes like: making necessary gear available for in-game credits only, nerfing some badguys, and being flexible on their weapon design. And this month’s Frontier Unlocked show teased more about the year ahead for the game. But best best of all, Frontier may actually make Tony happy – GENUINELY HAPPY – for once. Anyway, Tony has been into the maelstrom and back again and will tell all of us how we can do it, too.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen hasn’t released anything after Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.22.1.9072370 went to the LIVE server last week. But there was an Evocati server meshing test that tried its very best to avoid meshing any servers. And it seemed to go OK for what it was designed to do – which wasn’t much. And CIG has finally made a statement about all of the personnel that have been changing their relationship status on Linked In to “will dev for food.” As you might expect, it’s not especially informative. But that’s OK, because filling in those corporate-speak blanks is why we have a show. And finally, sandworms. Sandworms everywhere.
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 has officially eaten the brains of everyone on the show except me. Seriously, these guys have been playing, researching mechanics, and reading lore for this game AND from Helldivers 1. I’m waiting for Brian and Elliot to start planning cosplay, Tony to write a sketch or an EDRPG mission and Geoff to… I don’t even want to guess what Geoff is gonna do. All I know is, I’m going to have to sit through another segment where they chatter about it.
