Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous released a dot patch to fix the Python pre-built model and there was much rejoicing. And after much experimentation, the new Supercruise Overcharge drives can be engineered to practically the same jump ranges as the old drives, so there’s no reason to hang on to those old drives at all.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.23.1 9179031 to all backers on the LIVE server, and the patch only locked out players for a few hours. The Epic Month of May is in full swing, with the beginning of Invictus Launch Week. CIG is selling a cherry red ambulance that will raise you from the dead for only $55, and once again takes a monkey wrench to the entire Death of a Spaceman concept. But that’s not even the biggest news. The Epic Month of May just got EVEN MORE EPIC-ER with the announcement of Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.0 for the 3rd Quarter of 2024. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, CIG will absolutely, positively, TENTATIVELY deliver a laundry list of long-awaited features on or before October 1st, 2024. 12 planetary bodies, 5 refactors, 3 new techs, 3 new ship systems, 2 new locations, 2 new hazards, a new animal, a new ship and partridge in a pear tree. Let’s take bets on what gets cut between now and whenever they decide to release 4.0.

The Rest of the Gang

Homeworld 3 came out this week and is getting decent reviews, but it’s not a smash hit like some OTHER sequels we’ve talked about over the last year. Starfield released a patch that allows ship interior customization, detailed difficulty level settings, vastly improved fast travel and maps, and lets you respec when you go through the Unity. Still missing: a reason to restart a Starfield playthrough. And finally Helldivers 2 did exactly the opposite of what everybody predicted, and walked back their account linking requirement. So, naturally that’s all over forever and Sony is just going to give up on the idea for all time. Glad that’s settled.

Community Questions

  • What sort of ship decorations and skins based on non-Frontier IP would you like to see in the game? It doesn’t HAVE to be from the 80’s, but extra points if it is.
  • Is the change to the “regeneration” mechanic the death of Death of a Spaceman? Is the $55 ambulance game-breaking or game-making?
