Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous is finally warming up the Powerplay 2.0 narrative with a community goal issued for months-long president-elect Felicia Winters. And then, right in the middle of its progress, they changed the rules. Rather than letting the CG end as scheduled, they added another tier and extended the goal. AND, they lowered the threshold for earning the prize: a size 6 corrosion proof cargo rack. Also, the fifth Titan is down, leaving only three to go. The next target is Titan Thor, which will have Marvel fans frothing at the mouth. He’s an AVENGER, people. THANOS was the Titan. Get it straight.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.24.0 PTU.9252113 to the Evocati Server. Eventually, at some point, this build will make the jump to Wave 1 PTU testers, but not until some SECRET blockers have been fixed. But the SECRET blockers shall be revealed once the build hits the PTU. So… if the blockers will still be there, are they actually blockers? Also, CIG is once again feeling the heat of the friction burn that happens when actual game design constraints rub up against lore that they’ve been publishing for 10 years. It seems like we warned them about this somewhere around 9 years ago.

The Rest of the Gang

Helldivers 2 leaked the contents of the next warbond, and lemme tell ya girlfriends, it is FI – YA. No, literally, it’s a fire-themed warbond, which has overly excited a few pyromaniacs out there. Plus, they’ve fallen into the usual MMO trap of trying to design endgame content and settling for just exponentially ramping up the grind path. Also, No Man’s Sky has announced yet ANOTHER free update-slash-expansion, this one called Worlds: Part ONE. Does this mean there will be more Worlds Parts? Sean Murray says “MAAAAAAYbe.” Also Sean Murray says that they’re putting the tech they’ve been developing for Light No Fire into No Man’s Sky as part of this update. Huh. It’s like, they have a fully released game, and they’re working on a second, and they’re porting the tech from the unreleased game into the released game. This is a brilliant idea that I wish someone had thought of back around 2012.

Community Questions

  • Is it better for a game master to adjust mid-course during a challenge or let the consequences of failure run their course and make changes on the next try?
  • How much has your IMMMMMERSION been affected by the announced jump point system? What sort of “emergent gameplay” will result?

cq1) if the failures are causing big problems/affecting large percentage, do it during the challenge, if minor/small %, do after.
cq2) No change yet. By the way the old lore sounds like the FTL from the tv show Andromeda.

“I’m going to blow us up, I mean them” awesome bit of roleplay.

    Wonderful show everyone.
