Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous revealed the details of the Engineering revamp… or maybe refresh… definitely not a refactor or a reboot… also not a re-imagining… well, they changed some stuff. Bottom line, up front: they’re giving you more materials, more quickly and charging you fewer materials and removing the randomness from the upgrade process. They’ve also revealed that the new Type 8 will go on sale – and the engineering rework will come online – AND changes to the Thargoid war will be active – on Wednesday, August 7. This is unfortunate timing, for reasons we’ll get to in a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, the Powerplay update is imminent, and the mysterious new feature is also on track according to Arthur, so we should have plenty to talk about for the rest of the year. And for those of you on the right-hand side of the pond, next week is the annual Elite Community Meet, featuring awesome things and British people and other stuff we can’t have over here. Well, we did steal Lennon from you last week, so maybe that’s fair.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.24.0 PTU.9266874 to the Wave 1 PTU Server. In another stunning turn of events, CIG did… exactly what they always do. They appear to have released a buggy, underbaked build of the game just to get it out the door. In other news, reports from the Evocati testing 3.24 say that the overpowered Hornet Mk 2 is getting hit with a big ol’ nerf stick. But it’s not getting hit in the oversized guns, it’s getting hit in its oversized engines… which is the sort of thing CIG told us that they weren’t going to ever do. We’ll just add that to the list. And in this week’s star citizen live, Disco Lando reminds us that it is never too late for Chris Roberts to change his mind about something.
Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 is going to be busy next week, with their first expansion Escalation of Freedom. This will include new mission objectives, new enemies, new outposts, and another level of hell to dive into – take that DANTE! Nine circles may have been enough in the 14th century, but we get 10 levels here in the 21st. Speaking of ancient things, the team is bringing back two enemies from the original Helldivers game: The Impaler and the Spore Charger. That comes out on August 6th. But wait, there’s more! On August 8, the next warbond pack, Freedom’s Flame, hits the server. As you might suspect, there is a bunch of fire-themed gear. There are some seriously disturbed people who are WAY too excited to see this.
Community Questions
- What’s driving the long overdue changes to the engineering system in Elite Dangerous? Couldn’t afford anything better? Finally got sick of losing all the endgame players? Or a clever plot to grow the playerbase after the release of the mysterious “new feature?”
- Henry says the remastered Bridge Commander is great. Have you played anything remastered that improves on the original or just brings back great memories?
