Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Frontier released their monthly Unlocked show this week and spilled the beans on the Mandalay and spilled some tea on Powerplay 2.0. And we’re here with the paper towels and mops and brooms to clean all this mess up. Also, during next month’s show, they’re going to reveal the new feature coming to Elite. Which, if they deploy during December, will count as a great 10th Anniversary present, and help them dodge a stint sleeping on the couch.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.24.2 PTU.9347188 to the Evocati Server. The testers will be focusing on Stability, HUDs and MFDs, Character Creator updates, caves, and the flight model. This comes after several tests on the tech preview server to stress test the Tier Zero version of static server meshing. According to Benoit, formerly of Turbulent (A/K/A the formerly separate company that seemed to be the only division that got anything done) the tests were a great success. The first test on September 12 successfully identified that the old NMQ system didn’t work and the new RMQ system also didn’t work. The September 19 test successfully removed the non-functional NMQ code and successfully showed that the RMQ system still didn’t work, and didn’t work in new and interesting ways. And the September 26 test was successfully postponed until next week because it still didn’t work. Finally we revisit the charts created by Star Citizen backer Rodrigo ”Cucobr” Rezende to check in with all the features promised for delivery during the 2023 Citcon. And it’s… well… it’s not great news.

The Rest of the Gang

Helldivers 2 released their “We Swear We Want To Be Fun” patch last week to mostly rave reviews. But they added some hidden nerfs and ruined more of Tony’s favorite things. So overall, it gets a “meh plus” rating from him. Hunternet Starfighter has some additional footage of carrier arrivals on our discord which is cool to see and Fernando says he’s embarking on a QUOTE major engine update END QUOTE. And Starfield’s long awaited DLC Shattered Space is releasing on September 30th, and maybe we’ll play it. And maybe we won’t.

Community Questions

  • Should Frontier incentivize playing Powerplay 2.0 in Open as opposed to Solo or Private modes? What risk/reward balance would be appropriate?
  • Any more notes on the EDRPG? So far we have shorter adventures, more puzzles, faster fights, and more grenades. Last chance before Tony does whatever he wants…
