Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous is, in fact, doing a few fun things to celebrate its 10th anniversary. It’s just a little bit of invasion, as a special treat. The last Thargoid Titan is attacking Sol and over a dozen surrounding systems. So just in time for Christmas, the poinsettias of death have arrived to drop caustic goo into the stockings of both the naughty and the nice. But it’s not all bad news. First, the Cobra Mark 5 will be released as a paid early access ship on the same day you download this episode. Second, the new System Colonization feature has been scheduled for “early 2025” and – to our surprise and delight – will have some sort of beta test. Pretty good news all around, except for the stockings full of goo.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.0 EPTU.9450491 to Wave 1 PTU backers. They’re really going to go for it. If it’s not 3.18 broken, CIG is going to try to get 4.0 to the LIVE server before the ball drops on 2024. In addition to great features like Pyro and jump points, 4.0 will also have quality of life improvements like respawning ships with empty missile racks. And in the spirit of the holidays, CIG is laying off employees right after the crunch time of Citizen Con. Finally, it’s always fun to listen to Richard Tyrer and John Crewe reinvent the interplanetary travel model of Elite Dangerous while watching Disco Lando nod sagely from time to time.
Community Questions
- Is ammunition cost an appropriate balance for the combat power of missiles and torpedoes? Or should there be more work done in the battlefield balancing?
- How is Frontier going to end the Thargoid War? A glorious explosion and throwing away an entire gameplay stack? Or a miraculous escape and inevitable return? A combination of the two?
