Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous released the Gutamaya Corsair to the cash-money early access program. We would have an in-depth analysis of the new ship and its engineering potential, but Tony broke the USB cable leading to his joystick setup, so that will have to wait until next week. Also, we now have a better understanding of what Frontier meant by “beta” as they accidentally broke the new station economy last week. Don’t worry, it will only take a couple of weeks to fix it.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.1.1 PTU 9690800 to the Evocati server. The big news here is that the Year of Content may now commence, with Ship Battle missions and Training missions! The Roadmap Roundup points to Patrol, Ambush, Training and REDACTED missions as being “tentative.” With three types of repeatable missions – including a very mysterious mystery mission – and 8 progressive training missions, the month of May will certainly be an epic one…assuming the Evocati tests go well. Also, Tony was hoping that the Internets would find something in the CIG financials that he missed the first time through. Alas, the Internets have disappointed him. But that’s OK, because the Internets produced another round of articles celebrating yet another “CIG Number Go Up” milestone. Congratulations to Chris Roberts and the gang on $800 million and 12.5 years of fundraising!

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 has a board game version coming out via Gamefound – the board game version of Kickstarter. It blew through its 60 Thousand Guineaquid goal in less than 13 minutes and is currently sitting at over a million sterling with 10 days left to go in the campaign. With a Helldivers movie in pre-production at Sony as well, are we looking at the next Spaceballs?

Community Questions

  • Is CIG ever going to give up the crowdfunding ticker? Is 1.0 MVP a reason to put aside such an obvious and effective marketing tool?
  • Is Helldivers 2 going to make it as a tentpole franchise for Sony? Will we have Helldivers the Flamethrower? Helldivers the Lunchbox?
