Elite: Dangerous
Elite Dangerous is once again showing that they have fully understood the assignment when it comes to Community Goals. Not only did they release an Early Access cargo ship for a reasonable price, they immediately followed up with a Community Goal that plays to that ship’s strengths. Then, when the event proved popular, they EXTENDED the event so more players could participate and try for the better rewards. And THEN, when that proved popular, they doubled down on it yesterday, by creating a bounty hunting Community Goal running parallel to the first. The result? As of this recording, over 37 thousand CMDRs have contributed to the cargo hauling goal and almost 8 thousand have contributed to the bounty hunting goal.
Star Citizen
Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.3.0 PTU 10069046 to all backers on the PTU server. This patch features, Wikelo ships, 3 new hairstyles and SNOW! But most importantly, stability and bugfixes. Well, POTENTIAL bug fixes anyway. Also, taking a cue from the Frontier team, CIG has extended its Resource Drive for “a few weeks” so that players can “jump in and enjoy the fixes”. And it seems like any kind of co-op PvE missions are going to have to wait until CIG invents instancing technology for the first time in MMORPG history. It’s groundbreaking technology and we’re all lucky to get ringside seats to its development.
Dune Awakening
Dune Awakening is having another bout of “cheaters ruin everything,” just in time for them to announce another major patch that should hopefully fix the cheating. Unfortunately, they’re also going to have to up their customer service game to match their bugsmashing game in their…uh, video game.
Helldivers 2
Also, Helldivers 2 is coming to the X-Box on August 26. The console wars are over, and the winner is everyone who loves managed democracy and liberty and prosperity.
Community Questions
- Is there any reason for hardware companies to restrict their software to only their platforms anymore? Have we finally outgrown console exclusives?
- Do the developers “owe” you something when other players use exploits to take your in-game items? What, if anything, should you expect from the company?
