Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous released the Vanguards update this week and has given us the squadron features we’ve been missing since – one moment, just checking – December of 2018. Squadron carrier, check. Squadron bank, check. Squadron ships, check. Squadron decal generator, check. Squadron decal generator that lets you draw a penis, to be determined. But naturally, it wouldn’t be a major update, released without a beta test, without a few huge issues, and we’ll tell you about one and a half of them.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build HOTFIX 10137604 to the LIVE server. 4.3 is going so well that they just can’t wait to load live updates directly into the production code! Everyone loves to do that! Especially when Wikelo ships and inventory disappear! Also, CIG would like you to know that they only just found out about how unstable freight elevators were when so many players were using them simultaneously. Oh and also, somehow, they started a “directed repair initiative months ago”. So, I guess they’ve been working on time travel tech as well? Well, that’s good news for everyone in the investing public, because guess what? Cloud Imperium Games Limited is going public!

Helldivers 2

Dune Awakening released an honest-to-God roadmap, complete with features, dates, prices, and the obligatory “to be determined” features. Tony loves everything about the announcement, from the part where they are listening to player feedback, to the part where they have free and paid updates, to the part where they want to make the Deep Desert suck again. He loves that last part because he has something to complain about. Also, Helldivers 2 has announced that they would like to make another metric ton of cash, please. So if everyone would just line up and pour money into their pockets over here, and step forward to receive your HALO:ODST gear, they’ll get right back to becoming Sony’s cash-iest cash cow ever.

Community Questions

  • Do you believe there is a problem with Elite Dangerous revealing in-game character data via the Squadrons interface? Is this a bug or is it working as intended?
  • Has Tony lost his mind with the CIG stock IPO speculation? Is it really a ponzi scheme or is it just investment business as usual?
