Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous finally announced a release date for Operations: June 30. With the announcement, they showed off a preview of the station rescue mission. It’s a multi-stage, multi-objective puzzle that requires cooperation and specialization among players and gear. So it’s basically Helldivers. Not that this is a bad thing; Helldivers is very popular. Also, FDev announced an announcement of a concept reveal for June 2, the day this podcast goes out. So by then, you’ll know if the new “vessel” is an SRV or a ship with some weirdly dangly retrothrusters.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.8 LIVE 11875683 to the LIVE server. It’s been nothing but puppies, rainbows, and unicorn droppings for CIG, as 4.8 is drawing favorable comparisons to Version 3.18. The account lockouts aren’t QUITE as bad. And the glitches and crashes are SOMEWHAT less annoying. And the fixes are coming SLIGHTLY faster. But we should definitely ignore all that and concentrate on what really matters: One BILLION crowdfunding dollars. In honor of that achievement, Chris Roberts, along with his wife and co-founder Sandi Roberts, got a flowery interview with Variety. But the real star of this milestone achievement is the Odin Concept ship, which, according to the funding tracker, pulled in $5 Million all by itself. Kinda puts that $2 Million Kickstarter goal into perspective.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 announces a Warhammer 40K crossover for later in the year, forcing us to ask the question: what combination of “aggressive compound word plus number” marketing campaign is next?

No Man’s Sky

Also, No Man’s Sky released another free update: Swarms. Players have a new expedition, armors, gadgets and upgraded space battles in Hello Games latest update. Which can mean only one thing: Light No Fire will be full of BEES.
