Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous still hasn’t released Operations. That’s…. That’s about it. Now Geoff is going to read some copy that Tony wrote so Geoff won’t complain about not having anything to read.  But it’s really Frontier’s fault for not releasing the Operations update yet, it’s completely out of Tony’s hands and Geoff absolutely shouldn’t fault him for a lack of things to read.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.7.0-PTU.11485118 to the PTU server. In a surprising turn of events, CIG released an 8 minute long video highlighting the features of the patch with a minimum of fluff, a decent summary of the changes, and only a few cringy Disco Lando jokes. There will be crafting, missions and the much anticipated inventory rework. Maybe THIS will be the patch that deploys without anyone losing their gear or getting duplicates of everything. Because so far it doesn’t look like it. Also, be sure to get your tickets to the upcoming Bar Citizen in Las Vegas, where Chris Roberts writes off a gambling trip as a promotional expense.

The Rest of the Gang

X4: Foundations is taking feedback on their beta version 9.0, with big changes to mining and combat. Hard to believe it’s been seven and a half years since that game was released. It’s also hard to believe that it’s been two and a half years since Starfield was released, and we’re just now getting the second promised DLC next month. April 7 is the scheduled drop date, along with the release on Playstation 5. The aptly named free update “Free Lanes” adds some new gameplay loops and a bunch of quality of life improvements. The $10 DLC “Terran Armada” introduces a new faction complete with evil robots. From the feature list, it looks like they’re trying hard to address some of the shortcomings of both the basic game design and the actual game execution. Tony might be persuaded to try another walkthrough.

Community Questions

  • Are you planning on another playthrough of Starfield once the update comes out?
  • Should more games try to design a soloplayer/multiplayer toggle? Is this the way to promote peace and harmony among PvE and PvP players?
