Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous released the Thargoid rescue missile, now available at all reputable rescue ships in the bubble. Commanders with Maelstrom-capable ships can now either A) rescue victims of Thargoid kidnappings or B) import the Trojan-horse Humagoid pods – depending on your point of view. Make sure you bring lots of collector limpets and plenty of armor!

Star Citizen

Star Citizen has updated Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 3.21 on the PTU, and this time they have the crash handler working. Also, CIG will debut another test server, called “Preview,” Soon (™). This server will host a version of the game that will gradually introduce the backend changes necessary for Static Server Meshing. And research badgers from across the interwebz are digging into all the public data they can find to tell us two things: CIG may have a turnover problem, and much of the monthly report is copypasta from previous reports. And finally, with CitizenCon only two weeks away, fans are abuzz about a possible announcement of Pyro and Magnus and Terra getting added to the game… right after CIG replaces their database vendor. Fans are also abuzz with questions like “will we be seeing a CitizenCon schedule anytime soon?”

The Rest

Kerbal Space Program 2 has gone seven months without public facing progress and that has made some orbital math nerds sad. Star Trek Infinite, the Stellaris reskin made specifically for star trek nerds, is set to release next week. And Tony is going to say more things about Phantom Liberty because what else would you talk about on a space game podcast?

Community Questions

  • How important is a collection/crafting/inventory system in an RPG? Is there a tradeoff between a good inventory system and a good story?
  • Place your bets: will Star Citizens be able to fly through a jump point (in whatever form it takes) to Pyro before the end of 2023?

    Awesome joke Chiv.

    Wonderful show everyone.

cq1)in a single player, i dont really need a robust crafting, but i feel that all mmo’s should have a good one for a player economy.
