Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous is ramping up for the Trailblazers update with a little narrative prep work via community goals. Pirate attacks and exploration data deliveries, oh my! And with basically nothing else said from FDev since, we’re kind of wondering what’s going on over there? So we’ll just make up something and declare it correct until reality comes along and proves otherwise.

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.0.2 9546856 to the PTU server. They are laser focused on three things: fixing bugs, improving stability, and introducing a new mission event. And to do that, they need to disable courier missions. So, 4.02 is shaping up to be more content-neutral than content-positive. But maybe those missions will get turned back on before going to the LIVE server. Also, CIG’s commitment to quality is in full swing, with three surprise “necessary infrastructure updates” this week! Don’t worry, everyone got at least 30 minutes’ notice to store their ships before the lights went out. And the hits keep on coming on the financial side of CIG, and we’ll all suffer through that news together. Finally, Tony tried very hard to get through the three hours of Disco Lando and Benoit talking about 2025 but ultimately failed miserably. However, we will respond to the segment Jared recorded at the end: our condolences on the passing of Dad Lando.

Helldivers 2 & No Man’s Sky

Helldivers 2 released a new warbond: Servant of Democracy. It’s filled to bursting with weapons and skins and weapons, including the most Helldivers weapon so far. Forget about friendly fire damage, the LAS-17 Double-Edged Sickle will damage the USER as well as the target. Of course, it will still kill your teammates too, but burning the trigger man is a whole new frontier of self sacrifice. Also, this patch came with a few stability issues and bugs – like broken scopes making a comeback. There was also a raft of balance changes and other fixes, so overall the update seems like a winner. But more importantly, No Man’s Sky has been patching its Worlds Part 2 update a bunch, which makes Tony think something is afoot…

Community Questions

  • What are your expectations for live service downtime announcements? Is 30 minutes enough warning for an unscheduled server restart?
  • What’s going on at Frontier? Why hasn’t there been any word about the Trailblazers update since the release date was announced?
