Links & The Like

Elite: Dangerous

Elite Dangerous showed off the new Lakon Type 11, available on September 23 in early access for Arx. It’s a dedicated mining ship, with dedicated mining hardpoints and dedicated mining internals. Frontier is making a hard 90-degree turn away from creating ships that lend themselves to certain roles, but can do anything in a pinch. This ship is built for one thing only: cracking space rocks. And if you’re like Kinshadow, and you desperately missed Elite’s scavenger hunts across the Milky Way, dust off your decoder rings, CMDR! There’s another beacon-filled treasure trove awaiting you in the game. And as a special bonus, there’s a tiny hint of …. RAXXLA!

Star Citizen

Star Citizen released Early Access Pre-Alpha Release Candidate Prototype Experimental Test Build 4.3.0 HOTFIX 10188864 to the LIVE server. 4.3 is going so well that CIG is just never going to patch it! They will just keep hotfixing the servers and clients whenever they want to! It’s a whole new paradigm shift that’s never been done in the history of gaming! Actually, that’s not entirely true, because just now, 4.3.1 was released to Wave 1 PTU backers. The main feature is Version 3 of Tier Zero Medical gameplay. And the August monthly report is out for Star Citizen, which includes the busiest inventory screen since the original Starfield release. That’s not a great sign. Finally, the August Squadron 42 report came out in September, and bad news people, there’s no announcement announced for CitizenCon this year. But look on the bright side, that just leaves more time to hype the IPO.

Dune: Awakening

Dune Awakening announced that September 9 will see the release of its DLC, the Lost Harvest. The paid version gets a new independent story, a new vehicle, and new cosmetics. The free version gets a new chapter of the main questline, new missions on the main map, and new cosmetics. And the “free to everyone” version comes out on September 11 and runs through September 15. This is a completely unrestricted free weekend for anyone who wants to try the game out, including the new stuff. Pray for the server team, everyone.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 released their latest expansion, Into the Unjust, with bigger, uglier, deadlier bugs and crazier weapons. They’ve got tunneling scorpions, acid spewing flying dragonroaches, and, obviously, sandworms. And to kill them, they give you spear guns and napalm bazookas. It hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing, however, as there have been a sharp increase in crashes and disconnects. But what do we expect when a company does a new console release, a popular IP crossover and a major content update all within a two-week window?

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky released the Voyagers update with an accompanying Expedition, and now it is truly the space sim to end all space sims. That’s right Geoff, I said it. The new update introduced buildable ships with interiors. Much like Starfield, players can assemble components and design their own starship to use as a mobile base. The only question is: Will I ever play another game ever again? (besides Project Zomboid)

Community Questions

  • Are you happy with the Tier Zero Version 3 medical gameplay/death mechanic announced for 4.3.1? Which is worse, the goo supply or the range limitation?
  • What’s left for No Man’s Sky to do? Space whales? Better art? A completely different story?
